A Blaze Burner is a heating component that is required for certain Mixing recipes. It can be used for heating Steam Engines, Bulk Smoking, Bulk Smelting, and as a decorative light source.

Filling an Empty Blaze Burner

Blaze Burners must have Blazes in them to function. To put a Blaze in an Empty Blaze Burner, right-click on a Blaze while holding an Empty Blaze Burner. Alternatively, an Empty Blaze Burner can be filled by right-clicking on a Blaze Spawner. This method can be repeated without risk of destroying the Blaze Spawner.

Usage

Heating

Blaze Burners are used for Heating and Super-Heating Basins when doing Mixing recipes. In particular, they are required to make Brass. They can also be used as a heat source for boilers used to power Steam Engines. When a heat-able block is placed above a fueled Blaze Burner, the Burner will appear to channel heat into the block.

Right-clicking a Blaze Burner with any item that can be used as Furnace fuel will temporarily put it in a Heated state. Right-clicking a Blaze Burner with a Blaze Cake will temporarily put it in a Super-Heated state.

Fuel burn time is the same as a vanilla Furnace. The Blaze inside changes its size and texture depending on the amount of fuel provided, following the phases:

  • Phase 1 — Smouldering — Does not provide any heat for mixing, but provides the "passive" heat level for boilers (for more details see Heat sources). This is the default state when placing the Burner or when the fuel runs out.
  • Phase 2 — Heated/Kindled — Enables recipes that require heating. Lasts for the fuel's burn time and provides 1 heating level to Steam Engines per Blaze Burner
  • Phase 3 — Super-Heated/Seething — Enables every Mixing recipe and provides 2 heating levels to Steam Engines per Blaze Burner. Only achievable using the Blaze Cake. Always lasts for 160 seconds. The Blaze Burner cannot be re-fed during this phase.

Throwing an Egg at it will also generate heat. This is a reference to Howl's Moving Castle, as the Blaze Burners look similar to Calcifer.

A Deployer or Mechanical Arm can be used to automatically fuel it, given any burnable item as an input. Lava Buckets can be put into the Blaze Burner, and the Bucket will not be consumed. They will stop adding fuel if the Blaze Burner's remaining burn time is over 500 seconds, so no fuel is wasted. The Burner has a maximum fuel capacity of 1,000 seconds.

Train Controlling

When assembled with a Train and given a Train Schedule, it will drive the Train to the Train Stations the schedule specifies.

Decoration

Blaze Burners can be given a set of Engineer's Goggles by right-clicking them with goggles in hand. This does not consume the goggles, and is purely cosmetic.

Empty Blaze Burners can be lit on fire with a Flint and Steel as a decorative block. While lit, they can be given Soul Sand or Soul Soil to turn the fire into Soul Fire. These do not serve as heat for mixer recipes. However, they can be used as a passive heat source for Steam Engine boilers and for Bulk Smoking and Bulk Haunting using the lit and soul fire versions respectively.

History

  • 0.5:
    • Assets reworked.
    • Can now be given Engineer's Goggles.
    • No longer has a Fading phase.
    • Superheated burn time of blaze cakes changed from 50 seconds to 160 seconds
  • 0.3.2: Decorative Blaze Burners can now accept soul sand to make it a soul fire.
  • 0.3: Added.
