Rotational Power is used to make things in the mod work.

Factors

Speed

Speed refers to how quickly a rotational component is spinning, it is measured in Rotations Per Minute (RPM) and can be seen with a Speedometer. The maximum rotation speed of a component is 256 RPM. Any component to step up speed further like a large cogwheel will pop off at this speed.

Speed can be controlled through several means:

Higher speeds proportionally raise the stress requirement of a mechanical component. Twice the RPM produces twice the stress.

Stress

Stress is the amount of energy mechanical components need to run and is shared across all components that are connected together in a network, it is measured in Stress Units (SU). The stress requirement or production of a certain component can be seen by looking at it wearing Engineer's Goggles and the total stress of a network can be measured with a Stressometer.

Each network has a total amount of stress units available to work with, which can be produced by different means:

  • Windmills. A maximum size windmill can generate 8192su at 16RPM
  • Encased Fans, when getting a redstone signal and facing down over a hot block such as fire, lava, or a magma block, can generate stress units
  • A Furnace Engine and a Flywheel attached to a furnace, blast furnace, or smoker that is smelting something, will generate SU. A furnace or smoker generates 16384su at 16RPM, whereas a blast furnace will generate 32768su at 32RPM

Mechanical components utilize a certain amount of the SU available to the network depending on their type and the speed they're working at. If more SU are used than are available to the network, it will become overstressed and stop entirely until more stress capacity is added or stress-generating components are removed.

Transfer

There are several ways to transfer rotational energy:

Shaft

Shafts can transfer rotational energy in a straight line.

Cogwheels

Cogwheels and Large Cogwheels can connect to shafts and each other. Two small cogwheels connected to each other will rotate in different directions at the same speed. Two large cogwheels can connect across a corner, similarly to a Gearbox. A large cogwheel and small cogwheel can connect diagonally, they will rotate in opposite directions, with the small one rotating at twice the speed.

Mechanical Belts

Mechanical Belts can relay rotation between 2 or more shafts. all connected shafts will rotate in the same direction at the same speed. These generate a small amount of stress by themselves

Encased Chain Drives

Similar to belts, but don't generate stress, and can be placed perpendicularly to each other.

Gearboxes

Gearboxes work essentially the same as 4 large cogwheels connected around a block, but compressed down to a single block. Rotational speed from one side will come out the other rotating in the opposite direction

Clutch

A Clutch works like a toggleable shaft. It will stop rotation on the other side if powered with redstone

Gear Shift

A Gear Shift relays rotation to its other side, but will invert it when powered by redstone

Sequenced Gearshift

A Sequenced Gearshift will smartly relay, stop, speed up or slow down, and invert rotation coming into it when receiving a redstone signal according to a set of instructions set by the player
